I haven't had the time or quite honestly the drive to do it in a long time but the best way to get leads on the next 'moon shots' is to read on bitcointalk every day. That then leads you into multiple slack channels or IRCs and the occasional alt coin specific forum or subreddit. When I was doing this I could easily chew through 6-10 hours a day looking for new info.
Pump and dump groups only work for those that organize the group. They are the accumulators. They set sells at the current price or maybe as high as 30% higher before they announce the coin of choice and exchange and then watch has the greedy masses bring them profit. Never trust a word that you might read from them.
@ivylichen hit the nail on the head with regards to TA. I am not a good one to look at for TA but I do know that once you've figured out the methods you can start to see target prices and know when those targets will become 'triggers' that start bull/bear markets. Biggest thing with TA is to forget your gut, too many people trade on gut (gamble) and staying away from that is how you profit. Also be aware of the moon cycle and shemitah years as they drive human behavior that can be taken advantage of. Go long but don't baghold.
Another big piece of this puzzle is having different perspectives and being able to listen to them without bias. If you do your reading and TA and are certain the price will go in a certain direction it is then best to actively seek out a contrary opinion and be able to see things from their side. Your analysis can and will be wrong just as many times as it is correct. Learn how to prove yourself wrong and you'll have even more profit power.
I'd love to have a set 'meeting' time maybe once a week for an hour or more where we could discuss what we've seen during the week, coming down the pipe and what we plan to do individually. I think this would be much better served in a voice or video format as typing and reading takes away from everyone's precious free time. I figure this is best done on a weekend since I think we have people dotted all over this little marble floating in space. This could be done on skype, hangouts, rabbit or in my opinion, at least to start, just on teamspeak. I suggest TS because 1. I already have one that I use for my gaming group 2 it keeps a level of privacy that may be important to some and 3 it's lightweight and just voice, not as prone to lag cutout / problems as some of the others I listed. If this idea has some support I'll post my TS server addy. Also if any of you would like to join for a game just PM me and I'll send you my steam and the TS addy.
I really like the push for cooperation we've seen over the last few months. Everyday this little board seems more like a community than just a group of individuals.
